Grooming – The amount
of grooming owners need to do depends on the hair-type of the cat,
long-haired should be groomed every day, short-haired can go much
longer. It is important to prevent hairballs and keep the house clean.
Cats molt twice a year, when grooming is especially important.
Purring – Part of a cat’s unique communication
system, not just when content, also when frightened, in pain, giving
birth. It has been proven that stroking a purring cat can lower your
blood pressure and relaxes both the cat and the stroker.
Baths – Cats do not normally need to be bathed.
It may be necessary should brushing and combing not be sufficient.
Avoid getting lather in their eyes and keep them indoors until they
are completely dry.
Fleas – Regular grooming should prevent fleas
but if your cat does get infected it is important you use a product
that attacks all parts of the flea’s life-cycle – eggs,
larvae, pupae and adults. Fleas cause itching and can carry disease.
Dental Care – It is important to keep your
cat’s teeth clean. You can buy feline dental care kits &
use special cat toothpaste. Brush regularly and have proper check-ups
when your vet recommends it.
Litter Box – Initial training should be easy
in most cases. Cats like going to the toilet in a litter box. Simply
introduce to the box and it should come naturally. Change litter very
regularly.
Toys – Cats love playing and giving them their
own toys makes them less likely to play with things of yours. Toys
should be non-toxic, have no small parts and most importantly be fun!
Games you can play together are also good as they help improve your
bond and provide good exercise. |
